Lincoln Cathedral; image © FreeFoto.comLincoln is our nearest large town; it is home to the wonderful Cathedral, which is perched on a hill, and which can be seen for miles around, especially at night when it is illuminated. "Uphill Lincoln", as it is called, also has a Castle and many other old and attractive buildings, including the Bishop’s Palace and The Jew’s House. There are many trendy and traditional places to eat Uphill, and it also accommodates the famous Lincoln Christmas market, which attracts visitors from as far away as Europe.

One mile from us in Scopwick is the pretty conservation village of Blankney, with its highly praised golf course; plenty of walking and woods in this area. In addition, ten miles down the road is Woodhall Spa, famous for its golf course, which is ranked 46th in the world. The small town is also very wooded, and, for those who enjoy walking, is situated on the Viking Way. Woodhall Spa is also home to the unique rear projection cinema, The Kinema in the Woods, which shows all the latest films in surroundings you will never have experienced before, including an organ which rises from the floor during the interval!

The Lincolnshire Wolds; image © Nick FraserTo the west of our village, about six miles away is “the cliff edge”, the edge of the limestone ridge which falls away to the Trent valley below. Along this ridge are some beautiful villages with their limestone cottages and stunning views of the valley.

Fifteen miles to the east are the wonderful rolling Lincolnshire Wolds, home of Alfred Lord Tennyson, and fifteen miles to the south are the famous fens, locally known as the Flatlands, which are quite fascinating and a different world, even to those of us who have lived here all our lives.

Just down the road from us at Coningsby is the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Museum, housing the Lancaster Bomber, Spitfire and Hurricane aircraft. Our county is famous for its RAF camps, of which there are many, both old and new. We are home to the Red Arrows display team, and if you are lucky, you might see them practising in the skies over Lincoln. At RAF Waddington you can see a Vulcan bomber parked on the runway beside the A15, and at RAF Cranwell you can drive past the beautiful Hall and grounds where our country's pilots are trained.

Lincolnshire has a wealth of market towns for you to visit and many country houses including Burleigh House at Stamford, Belton House near Grantham, and Belvoir Castle, plus many others.
